"And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, 'I repent,' forgive him." Luke 17:4

Luke 17:4
“And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.” – Luke 17:4

In Judaism, it was common that a person would forgive another only three times. In fact, that was considered honorable to do so. However, Jesus pushes His disciples to go further. He uses the number seven. Now, is Jesus really saying that His followers are to forgive another person seven times and then call it quits? No. Taking the rest of God’s Word into account, the principle of forgiveness is unlimited. While the pain may be deep and the wrong perpetual, forgiveness has no limits. For this practically demonstrates the Gospel that we proclaim to believe that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). And though we ourselves still struggle with sin throughout our lives, God’s forgiveness is available to be embraced!
