“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” – John 13:34-35
The Christian life is simple: love God and love people. Every command, exhortation, admonishment, rebuke, or teaching is to move us to love one another in a deeper and fuller, Christ-like way. It’s by this love that God is made known to the world. And this love has a high standard. The love that we are to have should mimic the love that He has for us. He said, “even as I have loved you.” Why? Love for one another is the way those outside of the faith will know that we are His followers. Followers do what the leader does. When others see our love for one another, they will wonder what kind of love is this! Our greatest testimony to the realness of the gospel is that we love one another!
