“Each one must do just as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7
At Hope, we say often that we don’t give to a church but through a church as an investment in God’s Kingdom activity. This is one of the ways Jesus followers share in the mission. But how we give is just as important, if not more important, than the fact that we give. God doesn’t need our wallets. God is more concerned about our hearts as we give. We see this when Paul reminds believers that God loves a cheerful giver. This describes a person who doesn’t give because they have to but because they get to. It conveys the idea of giving with a joyful attitude. A person who has been radically changed by the Gospel cannot help but to live generously in light of that Gospel.
What is the attitude of your heart when you give?
