“For I testify that according to their ability, and beyond their ability, they gave of their own accord, begging us with much urging for the favor of participation in the support of the saints.” – 2 Corinthians 8:3-4
You can tell what a person values by looking at how they spend their time. You can also uncover what a person values by seeing where they invest their financial resources. Writing to the church in Corinth, Paul was describing the church in Macedonia and their deep desire to be involved in God’s activity financially in the lives of the saints in Jerusalem. They gave generously to see the mission accomplished in and through the church in Jerusalem. They weren’t coerced. They voluntarily and sacrificially gave toward that mission. Similarly, Jesus followers throughout history have been invited to join in God’s mission by giving in and through the local church.
Do you view your investment in God’s Kingdom activity in and through the local church as a privilege or a duty?
