“You yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another.” – Romans 15:14
In this passage, Paul is telling the church in Rome what he knows to be true about them. First, they were “full of goodness.” Here, goodness means the uprightness of heart and life, and this word is only used in Christian writings. That means that goodness was distinctly an overflow of the life of Christ in them. This is primarily because of the fact that they had been filled with the knowledge of Christ which gave them the ability to instruct, counsel, and exhort one another. For you and I today, this leads us to consider our responsibility that we have toward one another. Are we instructing others out of the overflow of Christ in us, or are we doing so utilizing our own wisdom?
Can you honestly say that when you have the chance to speak into someone’s life that it is out of the overflow of Christ in you?
