“For the ministry of this service is not only fully supplying the needs of the saints, but is also overflowing through many thanksgivings to God.” – 2 Corinthians 9:12
A popular mantra at Hope Church is that we don’t give to a church but through a church as an investment in God’s Kingdom activity, both locally and globally. We believe that because that is how the early church functioned. Paul was telling the Corinthian believers about the posture of giving taken by the churches around Macedonia. These churches participated in the relief of saints in Jerusalem. Despite their own state of poverty, they begged Paul to give to the believers in Jerusalem. Remarkably, this posture led them not to an attitude of poverty, but an attitude of thankfulness. When you give, what comes to your mind: “I have to give” or “I get to give”? God loves a cheerful giver. Does that describe how you give?
What is your posture when you give? Is it one of thankfulness?
