“Then He said to His disciples ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.'” – Matthew 9:37-38
Farmers on small fields know that harvesting can be hard work. Harvesting is the act of gathering a ripe crop from the fields and is the most labor-intensive activity of the growing season. Some say that it is best to take a basket out to the garden [or field] every day to see what has ripened. A couple of verses earlier, Jesus looked out among the people – the harvest – and He had compassion. His heart was full of urgency to gather unto Him those whose hearts were ripe to hear the Gospel of salvation. Yet even Jesus, one commentary says, in His humanity, could not get to everyone. That is why He told the people around Him to pray for the workers to help share in this great task of harvesting souls into the Kingdom. We can be an answer to that prayer.
As a child of God who has received eternal salvation, how are you harvesting others who have not yet been gathered into the Kingdom?
