“…but stiffened their neck that they might not hear and receive instruction.” – Jeremiah 17:23
Have you ever been advised or counseled by someone, but after hearing their counsel, decided to forgo the counsel and do what you wanted, even though what they said was right, valid, or true? That’s how Jeremiah described those to whom he was connected. When you decide to close your ears to the biblical counsel of others, you stiffen your neck. You harden your heart. You see, God places others in our lives to keep us from making bad decisions. The reality is our perspective is limited, and our own input is never enough because our hearts are always deceitful. We must listen to the counsel of others in order to make decisions that honor and glorify Him. Thank Him for placing others in your life who love you enough to give you wise counsel.
Have you ever disregarded the wise counsel of others? Were there consequences because of it?
