“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” – John 14:13-14
The heart of a loving father wants his children to ask for things because the heart of a father loves to give things to his kids. Our Heavenly Father desires the same thing. He wants us to ask for things in His name. When we come to our Father in humility, asking for things in a way that is consistent with who He is and what He has said He’ll do, that is when we can be assured that what we are asking for, will come to pass. This means that when we pray the Word of God back to our Father, we can be confident that He will answer that prayer in His time and in His way. When we pray for other things that are not clearly communicated in His Word, we must pray as Jesus prayed, “Not my will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). For His desires are often different than what we want, which causes us to live in dependence upon Him that much more.
