“Always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence” – 1 Peter 3:13-17
Why do you bow your head to pray? Why are you always reading your Bible? Isn’t it full of contradictions and errors? Are you ready to answer these questions if asked? Does your life provoke such questions? As followers of Jesus we are told to “always be ready.” However, we need to be careful. When we are ready to answer, we should not permit our readiness to answer or the confidence we have in the goodness of our Savior lead us to answer rudely or arrogantly to any person. We are to defend the truth with all possible “gentleness and reverence.” We also should not have a “holier than thou attitude” or be looking down on others because we all once had unanswered questions. Instead, we should be seeking love and be a stepping-stone for them, not a stumbling block. Jesus was “meek and lowly of heart” (Matt 11:29). May we always put on the Lord Jesus Christ.
Who has questions about Jesus that you can connect with today? As opportunities arise, respond to them in gentleness and reverence.
