“not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another even as we see the day approaching. ” – Hebrews 10:24, 25
The propensity to continue in doing good isn’t a “head” issue; it’s a “heart” issue. We know what we should do and what is best for our lives many times, but our endurance and commitment level can be swayed by the human need for change or boredom or worse, some selfish motivation. The writer of Hebrews encourages us to meet together regularly and consistently as a church family. In fact, even meeting more often as the Day of Jesus’ return draws closer. Yet, this flies in the face of our human thinking. While it’s true that we were made to live in community with others, our tendency to do life alone is what we desire in our flesh. However, we need each other. We need others to challenge us, exhort and encourage us. Thank Jesus for the biblical community. Ask Him to give you the wisdom to be with others even when our flesh tells us not to meet with them.
As you gather in small group, how can you specifically encourage those in your group?
