“And without faith it is impossible to please Him…” – Hebrews 11:6
Within human nature is the tendency to want to please people for merit. However, the writer of Hebrews here is not encouraging the practice of wanting to “please God” to be in right standing with Him. That leads to legalism which says, “I must ‘do’ to ‘be’ in right standing with God.” This is not Christianity. Christianity is focused on being, and doing is what He does through us. Being is what God wants from us. And it is when we simply be with Him that we learn to trust Him. You can rely on God for all things. This is faith. God doesn’t want us to work to please Him. He only wants us to truly and totally trust Him. Thank God that He gave you the ability to trust Him and do just that: trust Him.
Are you trying to please God in order to obtain a better standing before Him?
