“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Jesus asks us not only to share the Gospel at home, but he also asks us to be a witness in the strategic areas outside our city –in our Judea and our Samaria.
The western part of the United States is still a pioneer area for the Gospel. Much of the United States can trace its Christian heritage back 200 years, but some parts of the West are looking forward, so to speak. That is, many of the western cities of our nation are what we call “pre-Christian,” meaning that God is bringing people in those areas to hear the Gospel for the very first time. Cities like Las Vegas are certainly something of a melting pot, but so, also, are many areas in the region around it. Did you know, for instance, that portions of Long Beach, with over 150,000 Vietnamese residents, are known as “Little Vietnam”? Southern California itself, just a four-hour car ride from Las Vegas, currently is home to over 300,000 Iranians. There are many, many opportunities, in fact too countless to name — which God has created for us to be able share the Gospel in our very own Judea and Samaria.
Take a moment and thank God that He has placed you in a region of our country that is truly a global mission field. What opportunities has God given you that allow you to be around people that are different than you?
