"In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?" Psalm 56:4

Psalm 56:4
“In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid.  What can mere man do to me?” – Psalm 56:4

One of the classic movie and TV lines and probably one of our parent’s rhetorical statements is, “Choose your words wisely.”  In Psalm 56, David chooses his words wisely under the guidance of the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21).  Two times in verse four he uses elohim, translated as “God.”  This God created everything that we can see, touch, taste, and smell.  This God is in control of the entire universe.  This God, to sum it up, is BIG (Isaiah 66:1-2).  David got to know this God through His Word, and it was through his pursuit that God gave him confidence so that he would not be afraid in the face of difficult days.  That’s what God does for us too.  He deepens our faith in Him and His promises so that when hard times come our way, our trust in Him is sure.

How has God recently deepened your faith in Him?
