"Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner." - John 5:19

John 5:19
“Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless it is something He sees the Father doing; for whatever the Father does, these things the Son also does in like manner.” – John 5:19

As little children, some of us watched everything our parents did and we did our very best to mimic them. We did this because we thought that whatever they were doing, it was the only way to do it. There was no other way. Jesus makes it clear in this passage that He watched what the Father did so that He Himself could imitate His Father and join in His Father’s work. We are the same. We are incapable of doing anything unless we allow Him to do it through us. This can only happen by remaining dependent on Him for everything. In other words, our ability to “see” what the Father is doing is in direct relationship to our intimate fellowship relationship with Him.
