“And while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously.” – 1 Peter 2:23
How are we to endure suffering? When we are attacked for our faith in Jesus, how do we manage to make it through? Peter tells us that Jesus is our example. Well, how did Jesus respond to suffering? He didn’t retaliate in return for the things He was being subjected to. He didn’t make any verbal threats. He continued to commit His life over to the Father, knowing all the suffering He was enduring was going to be judged according to God’s righteous judgment. Here’s what that means for us: we don’t have to get even with those who are causing us to suffer because one day their actions will be judged by our Heavenly Father. Living out our faith on mission with Jesus will attract opposition and sometimes-undesired suffering. When that happens, learn to respond like Jesus.
How have you typically responded to suffering in the past? How might today’s devotional shape the way you undergo suffering in the future?
