“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” – Ephesians 1:18
If you’ve ever seen a toddler open a gift, you’d know that sometimes the actual gift is missed for the wrapping. They will ferociously open the gift only to be distracted by the wrapping paper, tissue paper, and the bright colored bag. All the while, the gift giver tries to show the toddler the actual gift that they’ve been given! Paul here is praying that the Ephesians wouldn’t miss the gift for the outer wrappings. It is possible to be so consumed with God’s stuff that we miss God altogether. Through Christian activity, church events, Christian books, music, and brightly colored fluff we can actually miss God and His incredible calling on our lives! As we connect together as brothers and sisters in Christ, we must help each other to not get caught up in all of the giftwrap that comes with following Jesus but pray for one another that our hearts would hold fast to Christ and His calling!
Do you regularly speak into another’s life and encourage their walk with the Lord? Do you have someone who is regularly keeping you accountable as you follow Jesus?
