“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” – Galatians 2:20
What distinctly marks your life as a Jesus follower? Is it the pursuit of selfish desires and worldly wants? Or is it the pursuit of your relationship with Him? Paul states in this verse that he no longer lives, but Christ lives in him. What does that mean? Even though he had all the accolades that would propel him to the top in his day (Philippians 3:4-6), it meant nothing to him, only that Christ would live in and through him. In fact, to Paul, his flesh was as good as dead, and the life of Christ distinctly marked his life. Today, when facing trial and temptation, the only way to fight well is to reckon our flesh as dead, appropriating by faith our new life and identity in Christ. It’s saying of our flesh, “That’s not who I am anymore. This is who I am: a loved son or daughter of Jesus.”
