“Now it shall be, if you diligently obey the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments which I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth.” – Deuteronomy 28:1-2
Everyone likes to be rewarded for a job well done. Yet, it is usually the reward itself that incites good behavior or hard work. And while the Christian life has blessings and rewards for obedience, the motivation to obey is not rooted in the reward, but in the relationship we have with God in Christ. However, as this verse reveals, there is a reward for obedience. The reward of yielding moment-by-moment to Christ, in and through you, is that it invites God’s blessing into your life. These blessings are mainly spiritual, but as the rest of Deuteronomy 28 shows us, these blessings are also physical.
How have you experienced God’s blessing as a result of obedience in the past?
