“The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” – 2 Timothy 2:2
God’s command for believers is very clear. Matthew 28:20 says, “Go make disciples, teaching (or training) them to observe all that I have commanded you.” All believers are on mission together to make disciples. Notice, it doesn’t say “make converts.” God’s desire is not for people to simply believe in something and not grow in that something. Think of the last time you trained at something. It takes work! But without training, you won’t learn what you need to know to eventually teach other trainees. The same is true in our relationship with other believers. Jesus followers should always have someone they are learning from and someone they are training. So who are we pouring into and training? Who are we entrusting the things of God to “who will be able to teach others also?” This is a huge challenge for parents! Are we training and entrusting our kids with Gospel truths that will equip them for their future? Discipleship is a journey, not a destination. There’s always more to learn, and there’s always someone eager to be taught and entrusted with these incredible Gospel truths!!
Who, if anyone, entrusted the Word of God to you, to equip you to make disciples? Are you currently pouring into someone else’s life and training them?
