“And what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.” – Ephesians 1:19
When we hear the words “power” and “greatness,” many things may come to our minds. Maybe the strength of a professional athlete or the force of huge machinery. Maybe we think of massive crashing waves or remember times when we’ve seen incredible storms on TV or in movies. These are all great examples of power and greatness, but Paul is sharing with us and the Ephesians of a surpassing (i.e. a far better) power and greatness.
Paul actually uses four Greek words here to describe this power and greatness. There are two specific words that will hopefully encourage you today. The first use of “power” is “dunamis,” where we get our English word dynamite! Secondly, the word for “working” is “energeia.” This is “power in exercise or operative power.” This is God’s energy! The Bible says that this dynamite power of God’s energy is the same power and greatness that raised Christ from the dead (Rom. 8:11)! What an encouragement to us today that this surpassing greatness is “toward us who believe.” May you tap into that power today!
Are you aware of the power of God that is in you as a believer in Christ? How are you allowing God’s dynamite power and energy to flow from your life?
