“By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. The one who says, ‘I have come to know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him.” – 1 John 2:3-5
At Hope, we constantly talk about the reality that our God Time is our main source of spiritual life. Abiding in the Vine (Jesus) is our greatest pipeline to becoming more like Him. But it’s much more than simply spending time in the Bible; obedience to Him, or keeping His word, is when our rubber meets the road. It’s when we practice living by His Word that it becomes real within us, and this is how God’s love becomes “perfected.” When someone prays for more love, God often provides an individual for you to practice love towards! This is how God gracefully tests and grows us, by giving us opportunities to keep His Word, and the more we are faithful, the deeper His roots grow.
