Anchored: A Journey Through Isaiah 55
Isaiah 55:12–13 // From Thirst to Triumph

“For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55:12-13

Become comfortable.
Given up hope.
Blended into the culture.
Stopped expecting anything new.

"For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the LORD, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off." Isaiah 55:12-13

The Hebrew word is YATSA - “to be brought out.”

"For you shall go out in joy" Isaiah 55:12a

1. Joy isn't earned—it is received.

The World's Definition of Happiness & Joy

"Happiness comes from getting what you want."

"Your circumstances determine your happiness."

"Chase success, possessions, and comfort."

"Put yourself first—your happiness is what matters most."

Jesus' Definition of Happiness & Joy

"...that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full." John 15:11

"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:7

"Seek first the Kingdom of God..." Matthew 6:33

"...it is more blessed to give than to receive." Acts 20:35

"God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him” John Piper

"For you shall go out in joy and be led forth in peace..." Isaiah 55:12

It's trusting Him enough to follow when we don't understand the path.

2. Peace isn't a destination—it is a Person.

Shalom = Life as God intended it.

God is leading you toward the life your soul was created for.

God is ultimately redeeming ALL of creation.

“...the mountains and the hills before you shall break forth into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.  Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress; instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle; and it shall make a name for the Lord, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55:12b-13

3. Creation isn’t silent—it is singing.

“...cursed is the ground because of you... thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you...” Genesis 3:17a-18b

Thorn and Brier = Negative, Broken, Cursed, A Forgotten and Ruined Land
Cypress Tree = Lasting, Strong, Valuable
Thorn Bush = Temporary and Unwanted
Myrtle Tree = Beauty, Celebration, and Blessing

The very places that once represent pain, loss, and judgement will become places of beauty, strength, and life.

"...it shall make a name for the LORD, an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off."  Isaiah 55:13b

4. Life isn't about making our name famous—it's about making His Name known.
