This Church

A Fellowship on Mission

Philippians 1:3-5

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.

I. THIS CHURCH UNDERSTOOD THE BIG PICTURE

“partnership in the gospel” (v.5a)

“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.”—Mark 16:15

“from the first day until now” (v.5b)

What is the Kingdom of God?

God’s sovereign activity in the world resulting in people being in right relationship with Himself

“And they sang a new song, saying, ‘Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom…”—Revelation 5:9-10a

II. THIS CHURCH JOINED IN GOD’S ACTIVITY THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS WITH OTHERS

Their relationship with Paul was Personal

“He begins the body of his letter in this very lovely manner, which reveals the sweet relationship between Paul and the Philippian believers…Every time anybody would mention Philippi, Paul would just thank God for the believers there.”—J. Vernon McGee

Their relationship with Paul was All-in

They prayed fervently. They gave sacrificially. They sent strategically.

Their relationship with Paul was Long-Term

III. THIS CHURCH IMPACTED OTHERS THROUGH THEIR PASSION FOR GOD’S KINGDOM

“I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.”—Philippians 4:18

“We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints.”
