Hope for the World 2025 Week 2 | Church Multiplication

Hope for the World 2025
Nov 16, 2025
Acts 13:1-4

In Week 2 of Hope for the World, we focused on reaching our nation through church planting. Pastor Ricky Harris taught from Acts 13:1–4.

In this passage, the local church recognized the need to share the gospel beyond itself and sent out missionaries to do just that. In the same way, God has called every Jesus follower to share the gospel — and reaching the nations through church multiplication might be part of that calling. Whether it’s starting a church or joining a church plant, God may be prompting you to take that step.

Hope for the World 2025
Church Multiplication // Acts 13:1-4
“Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off. So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.” Acts 13:1-4

“Ekklesia”
Meeting together, literally = “called-out ones”

The local church recognized the need to share the gospel beyond itself with a larger world.

Multiplication is the Product of a Healthy and Obedient Church
“Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a lifelong friend of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.” Acts 13:1

“But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on coming to Antioch spoke to the Hellenists also, preaching the Lord Jesus.” Acts 11:20

Prophets:
Spoke God’s message to His people, bringing direction and encouragement through the Holy Spirit.

Teachers:
Explained God’s Word so His people could understand and live it out.

When the church has the same heartbeat of God, multiplication becomes natural.

Multiplication Takes Faith and Demands Sacrifice
“Then after fasting and praying, they placed their hands on them and sent them.” Acts 13:3

Faith is God Confidence

The Meaning of Laying on of Hands: Identification
Affirming those set apart by God to preach to Gospel in a specific area.

The Meaning of Laying on of Hands: Commissioning
Releasing someone from their current work and sending them out to fulfill a new mission.

Identification = Affirming those set apart by God to preach to Gospel in a specific area.

Rationalization can lead to a comfortable disobedience.

Multiplication is Empowered by the Holy Spirit
“So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.” Acts 13:4

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you… then you will be my witnesses to the world.” Acts 1:8
