“Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 1 Peter 4:9


Hospitable

is the compound Greek word “φιλόξενος” - φιλό – love; ξενος, - stranger. Literally, “love the stranger.”


Love

to feel deep affection for someone; to care about their needs, to see and empathize with their plight.


Stranger

Someone unfamiliar, strange, foreign, or unknown.


Why should we show hospitality?

How should we exhibit hospitality?


1. Why should we show hospitality?

• It’s godly

• It’s a command


“The end of all things is at hand; therefore; be self-controlled and sober-minded… Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” 1 Peter 4:7,9


“Do not neglect to show hospitality…” Hebrews 13:2

“But God,…because of the great love which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive…” Ephesians 2:4-5


2. What Can Result from our Hospitality

• Opportunities

“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders…” Colossians 4:5 …that leads to their salvation


Salvation

“For we must all appear before the judgement seat of Christ… Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others… Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation,… we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:10-11,18,20 NASB

• Wisdom

“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders…” Colossians 4:5

• Transparency

“…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

• Service

“… the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve…” Matthew 20:28

• Friendship

“Oil and perfume make the heart glad, and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel.” Proverbs 27:9


3. What Does Hospitality Require?

• Wisdom

• Transparency

• Service

• Friendship


How can I apply hospitality in my life with anyone?

1. Be intentional

2. Be Vulnerable

3. Be Sacrificial

4. Be Joyful


1.Am I aware of other’s needs for a relationship with God?


2. Am I willing to be hospitable to people around me and allow God to use it as a way to reach others with the Gospel?
