Compelling Disciples Week 3
Evangelism in Exile // 1 Peter 3:13-15 |

“Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.” Colossians 4:5-6

"Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect." 1 Peter 3:13-15

1. Christ Must Be the King of Our Hearts

"Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." Proverbs 4:23

Spiritual Reality: Whatever has captured your heart, will compel your life.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37

"Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us." 1 Peter 2:12 (NIV)

2. We Must Be Ready to Share About Our King.

“We must live in the Kingdom of God in such a way that it provokes questions for which the gospel is the answer.” - Lesslie Newbigin

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?… So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." Romans 10:13-15, 17

"...yet do it with gentleness and respect ." 1 Peter 3:15

GENTLY

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control..." Galatians 5:22-23

RESPECTFULLY

"The Gospel is offensive, therefore, nothing else should be." – J.D. Greear

“Peter did not suggest that Christians argue with lost people, but rather that we present to the unsaved an account of what we believe and why we believe it, in a loving manner.” – Warren Weirsbe

"We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it." - Madeleine L'Engle
