“Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people.” – Genesis 25:8

  1. ABRAHAM KNEW GOD

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from beginning to end.” – Ecclesiastes 3:11

“and the Scripture was fulfilled that says, ‘Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness’ – and he was called a friend of God.” – James 2:23

  1. Good Works – we attempt to earn God’s friendship by doing good things

“… all our righteous deeds are like a polluted garment.” – Isaiah 64:6b

  1. Morality – we attempt to earn God’s friendship by not doing wrong things

”None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” – Romans 3:10-12

  1. Religion – we attempt to earn God’s friendship by keeping a set of rules and rituals

“For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” – James 2:10

“And he believed the Lord, and he counted it to him as righteousness.” – Genesis 15:6

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

  1. ABRAHAM WALKED WITH GOD

To walk with God is to live life in dependence on God rather than in dependence on myself

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” – Galatians 5:16-17

“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whim who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’” – Genesis 12:1-4

III. ABRAHAM WAS SATISFIED BY GOD

“… I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10b
