THE LORD’S SUPPER
Mark 14:22-26
“I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.” Philippians 3:8a
“You simply cannot exaggerate when you are speaking of His worth. He belongs in the place of preeminence.” – Joseph Stowell
MARK 14:22 – 26 | And as they were eating, he took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to them, and said, “Take; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, and they all drank of it. And he said to them, “This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly, I say to you, I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new in the kingdom of God.” And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Why is the Lord’s Supper important?
- We need TO REMEMBER an UNPRECEDENTED SACRIFICE
Jesus’ body was broken.
“He stands where no one has stood before or since, enduring at one tiny point in space and time, all that sin deserved.” – Donald Macleod
- We need TO DECLARE an UNDESERVED REDEMPTION
Jesus’ blood was shed.
“What did He mean when He said that the cup stood for a new covenant? The word means something like an arrangement, a bargain, a relationship. The covenant was entirely dependent on Israel keeping the law. If the law was broken, the covenant was broken and the relationship between God and the nation shattered. But Jesus says, ‘I am introducing and ratifying a new covenant, a new kind of relationship between God and man. And it is not dependent on law; it is dependent on the blood that I will shed.’ That is to say, it is dependent solely on love.” – William Barclay
“For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all…” - 1 Timothy 2:5-6
- We need TO CELEBRATE an UNSTOPPABLE HOPE
Followers of Jesus have an eternal home in heaven.
“But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.” - 1 Corinthians 11:28

We must examine our relationship with God.
We must examine your relationship with others.
