Life Marks: Evidence of a Life with Jesus

Week 1: Loving and Living in God’s Word

We exist to connect people to live the life of a Jesus follower

What did Jesus’ life look like?

RELATIONSHIPS!

1.    Jesus’ relationship with the Father

2.    Jesus’ relationship with the disciples

3.    Jesus’ relationship with people who didn’t know God

ABIDE

CONNECT

SHARE

ABIDE – A Jesus follower abides in Christ

CONNECT – A Jesus follower connects in community

SHARE – A Jesus follower shares in the mission

Becoming the kind of people who abide in Christ, connect in community, and share in the mission will result in certain things that mark our lives.

Life Marks for 2024:

1.    Abide – Loving and Living in God’s Word

2.    Connect – Serving Your Church

3.    Share – Sharing Your Story

Loving and Living in God’s Word

1. Too many people who claim to follow Jesus don’t spend time in God’s word.

“We revere the Bible, but don’t read it. It is the best-selling, least-read book in America.” -George Gallup Jr.

2. We are all being formed into something. We become what we behold!

“And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.” -2 Corinthians 3:18

“If you want to be changed, if you want to become more like Jesus… discipline yourself to read the Bible.” -Donald Whitney

1. Jesus Followers Love God’s Word

“Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day.” -Psalm 119:97

“More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.”-Psalm 19:10

2. Jesus Followers Live in God’s Word

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, ‘If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples…’” -John 8:31

3. Jesus Followers Benefit from God’s Word

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” -2 Timothy 3:16

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” -Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” -2 Timothy 3:16

“Satan devotes 168 hours per week to deceiving you. How can we possibly combat that without countering it with time in the Word of God?” -John Piper

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” -2 Timothy 3:16

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” -2 Timothy 3:16

“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness…” -2 Timothy 3:16

“…that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” -2 Timothy 3:17

“It is impossible to practice godliness without a constant, consistent and balanced intake of the Word of God in our lives.” -Jerry Bridges

What does this look like practically?

1.    Daily time in the Word

2.    Weekly time under the Word

3.    Consistent fellowship around the Word
