1 Corinthians 15:3-4

In this Easter message Pastor Scott Worthington teaches from 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. What will you do with the resurrection? You can either deny it happened, ignore that it happened, or believe that it happened and live in light of it. That is what we explore in this sermon.

What Will You Do with the Resurrection?
Easter 2024

What will you do with the resurrection?
1.You can deny that it happened
2.You can ignore that it happened
3.You can believe that it happened and live in light of it

1.The Resurrection of Jesus is a Reality

“For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4

The evidence for the resurrection was overwhelming!

Three Pieces of Solid Evidence of the Resurrection:
1.The tomb was empty

“The angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid; for I know that you are looking for Jesus who has been crucified. He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.’” Matthew 28:5-6 (NASB)

2.There were eyewitnesses

“…he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.” 1 Corinthians 15:5-7

“To put it into perspective, if you were to call each one of the 500+ witnesses to a court of law to be cross-examined for just 15 minutes each, and you went around the clock without a break, it would take you from breakfast on Monday until dinner on Friday to hear them all. After listening to 129 straight hours of firsthand, eyewitness testimony, who could possibly walk away unconvinced?” Lee Strobel

3.The movement grew

What will you do with the resurrection?

2.The Resurrection of Jesus is Our Only Hope

“And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain... And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins.” 1 Corinthians 15:14 & 17

The entirety of the Christian faith hangs on the resurrection.

“If Jesus rose from the dead, you have to accept all that He said. If he didn’t rise from the dead, why worry about anything he said?” Tim Keller

3.The Resurrection of Jesus Must be Believed

“So Peter went out with the other disciple, and they were going toward the tomb. Both of them were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. And stooping to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus’ head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed; …” John 20:3-8

The stone was not rolled away so Jesus could get out. The stone was rolled away so the disciples could get in.

Faith is not having all your questions answered. Faith is entering in to see and believe.

“And you were dead in your trespasses and sins.” Ephesians 2:1

What will you do with the resurrection?

“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9
