4 Questions About Prayer

1. What is prayer?

Prayer is talking to God
“…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.” Philippians 4:6

Prayer is listening to God
“‘My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.’” John 10:27

2. Why should we pray?

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

“Desperate people pray; prideful people don’t.” Travis Ogle

3. How should we pray?
We pray consistently
We pray desperately

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My tears have been my food day and night, while they say to me all the day long, ‘Where is your God?’” Psalm 42:1-3

We pray expectantly

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind.” James 1:6

4. What happens when we pray?
God meets us
(We experience His presence)

“As we spend devotional time in the Word and in prayer, God is pleased to commune with us and to reveal more of who He is, little by little.” Clyde Cranford

God makes us grow
(We experience progress)

"There are parts of our calling, works of the Holy Spirit, and defeats of the darkness that will come no other way than through furious, fervent, faith-filled, unceasing prayer." Beth Moore

God moves
(We experience His power)

“What an instrument is this which God hath put into your hands! Prayer moves Him that moves the universe.” Robert Murray M’Cheyne
