Hope for the World 2023

Week 1: Do You See What He Sees?

What is the Hope for the World?

“Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” -John 14:6

Why is the World still so broken?

Matthew 9:35-38

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few;therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”

1. Jesus Goes and Tells People in Need

“And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.” -Matthew 9:35

“Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, ‘The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.’” -Mark 1:14-15

The Gospel is the doorway into the Kingdom!

2. Jesus Sees and Cares for People in Need

“He saw them ignorant, hopeless, helpless, dying…The sight moved him to deep pity. That loving heart could not see such things and not feel. Now what are our feelings when we see such a sight? This is the question that should arise in our minds.” -J.C. Ryle

Jesus consistently put himself in places to see and care for people’s needs.

1. What Are We Seeing in Our City?

“‘… Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.’” -John 4:35b

2. What Are We Seeing in Our World?

“Do we sense the urgency? Do we see the world with the eyes of Jesus? We don’t have time to play games with our lives or play games in the church. And we don’t have time to waste our lives on the pursuits, pleasures, and possessions of this world, when there is something infinitely more important for us to do.” -David Platt
