“Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth.” Psalm 127:3-4
 
1. Effective Arrows Must Be Aimed
 
How do we aim?
1. Make it a priority

“Cooperating with God in the formation of your children’s character, then teaching and training and exhorting and loving them to Jesus—these things must become your top priority.” Phil & Diane Comer (“Raising Passionate Jesus Followers”)
 
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…” Deuteronomy 6:5-7a
 
Parents are the primary disciple-makers of their kids!
 
How Do We aim?
1.  Make it a priority
2. Model it personally
 
Parents, we pass on your passions
 
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.’” 2 Corinthians 12:9

2. Effective Arrows Must Be Sharpened
 
How Are We Sharpened?
1. Through Community

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
 
Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.
 
“Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.” Proverbs 13:20
 
How are we sharpened?
1. Through Community
2. Through Commitment
 
“Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.” Proverbs 16:3
 
3. Effective Arrows Must Yield to the Bow
 
“Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’ (this is the first commandment with a promise), ‘that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.’” Ephesians 6:1-3
