Luke 18:35-43

Luke 18:35-43

“As he drew near to Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the roadside begging. And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant. They told him, “Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.” And he cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” And those who were in front rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him. And when he came near, he asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, let me recover my sight.” And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.”

1. Jesus Comes to Those Who Could Not Come to Him.

“And hearing a crowd going by, he inquired what this meant.” -Luke 18:36

When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” -2 Samuel 7:12-13

“…recovering of sight to the blind…” -Luke 4:18

“And he cried out…“ -Luke 18:38a

“But he cried out all the more…” -Luke 18:39b

Thank you, Jesus, for coming to us when we could not come to you!

 2. Jesus Sees Those in Desperate Situations.

And Jesus stopped and commanded him to be brought to him.” -Luke 18:40a

Compassion stops, sees, and helps when others tend to keep going.

What good is it to be on the move for God if we keep moving past the people God wants to move in?

Don’t be in too much of a hurry because you will run past way more than you will ever catch up with.

Thank you, Jesus, for seeing us in our desperate situations.

 3. Jesus Hears Those Who Need Help.

“What do you want me to do for you…” -Luke 18:41a

“We must never forget our utter inability apart from God’s empowering grace. We are ALWAYS needy!” -Pastor Scott Worthington

“When we cry to Jesus we never cry alone.” -Reverend Dr. Charlie Dates

“The problem is that, if need means “essential for life”, most of the things we load into our need category aren’t really needs at all. They are actually desires that have become so precious to us that we convince ourselves we cannot be happy without them.” -Paul David Tripp

Thank you, Jesus, for hearing our sorrowful cries for help.

 4. Jesus Offers Hope and Salvation.

And Jesus said to him, “Recover your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God.” Luke 18:42-43

What is the object of your faith?

Glorified and Praise God:

Angels – Luke 2:13

Shepherds – Luke 2:20

Blind Bartimaeus – Luke 18:43

Crowds – Luke 19:37

Early Church – Acts 2:8-9

Why do we follow Jesus so quietly, when his grace has spoken so loudly in our lives?

Thank you, Jesus, for offering Hope and Salvation.
