LESSONS FROM A GRATEFUL LEPER

Thanksgiving 2021

GRATITUDE

On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:11-19

1 // The Desperate Ten

And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” - Luke 17:12-13

When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. – Luke 17:14

Jesus asks them to act on a His word before it became their reality.

What has God done in my life that I take for granted?!

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

The Desperate Ten:

- They recognized their need

- They recognized Jesus’ authority

- They responded in obedience

- They missed out on all that Jesus had for them.

Gratitude is a path to the presence and power of God in our lives.

2 // The Grateful One

Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. – Luke 17:15-16

Lessons from the Grateful Leper:

1. His gratitude was a response

What has God done in my life that I take for granted?!

When it comes to life the critical thing is whether you take things for granted or take them with gratitude.” – G.K. Chesterton

2. His gratitude was immediate

3. His gratitude turned to worship

What gets the bigger megaphone in my life? My problems or my praises?

There is a level of intimacy with God that we will not enjoy without gratitude

3 // The Miraculous Master

Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.” Luke 17:17-19

“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” – Luke 19:10

Gratitude is a path to the presence and power of God in our lives.
