Questioning BAPTISM
ACTS 2:37-41

Many people see baptism as a religious ritual instead of the powerful picture that it is

ACTS 2:37-41
Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

1. WHAT IS BAPTISM?

BAPTISM IS A PUBLIC DECLARATION THAT SAYS: “I AM A JESUS FOLLOWER!”

“So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:41

“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.” Romans 6:3-4

“And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38

1. Romans 10:9 – “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”

2. Mark 1:15 – Jesus said, “…repent and believe the Gospel.”

Baptism doesn’t save me. It’s a powerful picture of my salvation.

I publicly share about what I truly care about!

2. WHO SHOULD NOT BE BAPTIZED

1. People who do not have a relationship with Jesus
2. People who have already been baptized according to the teaching of the New Testament

Baptism in the New Testament was…
1. After salvation
2. By immersion
3. In community

3. WHEN SHOULD WE GET BAPTIZED?

If you are not in those 2 groups:
Today you need to be baptized!

1. “I’m not ready…”

2. “I was baptized before…”

3. “I’m afraid of _____________”

4. “I don’t understand why it’s a big deal…”
