The Weary World Rejoices

This Is Love // December 24, 2023

We were created to live from a place of approval.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them.” -Genesis 1:27

“And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.” -Genesis 1:31a

We were created to live from a place of approval.

“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” -Romans 3:23

“…God is love.” -1 John 4:8b

Love is god

1 John 4:9-10

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”

1. God Showed Us His Love

In this the love of God was made manifest among us…” -1 John 4:9a

2. God Showed Us His Love by Sending His Son to Give Us Life

“…that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him.” -1 John 4:9b

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” -Colossians 1:15–17

“For the wages of sin is death…” -Romans 6:23

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 6:23

3. God Showed Us His Love by Sending His Son to Give Us Life by Dying in Our Place, For Our Sin

“…this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”-1 John 4:10

Because God is holy, our sin requires payment.

Because God is love, He provided the payment.

“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.” -Romans 5:8-9

God showed us His love by sending His Son to give us life by dying in our place, for our sin.

“The gospel is this: We are more sinful and flawed in ourselves than we ever dared believe, yet at the very same time we are more loved and accepted in Jesus Christ than we ever dared hope.” -Tim Keller

“…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”-Romans 10:9
