What Do You Think About Jesus? | Easter 2026

Easter 2026
Apr 5, 2026
Matthew 16:13-17

In this Easter message, Pastor Scott preaches from Matthew 16:13-17.

We explore the question Jesus asked in Matthew 16: “Who do you say that I am?” and look at four truths about Him: He is real, radical, raised, and revolutionary. These truths invite us to reflect on our own response to Jesus.

So, what do you think about Jesus? This is a question every person must answer. Watch this sermon to learn more!

What Do You Think About Jesus?
Easter 2026 // Matthew 16:13-17

“Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, ‘Who do people say that the Son of Man is?’ And they said, ‘Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.’ He said to them, ‘But who do you say that I am?’” Matthew 16:13-15

"But who do you say that I am?"

Four Truths About Jesus
1. Jesus Was Real

"He certainly existed, as virtually every competent scholar of antiquity, Christian or non-Christian, agrees." Bart Ehrman

2. Jesus Was Radical

“There are many offensive things about Christianity, at least for some people, but the chief offense of Christianity is its founder and His extraordinary claims.” James Montgomery Boice

Two Radical Claims of Jesus:
1. Jesus claimed to forgive sins (Mark 2:5-7)

“‘Why does this man speak like that? He is blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’” Mark 2:7

“For the wages of sin is death…” Roman 6:23a

“…for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23

“For the wages of sin is death but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23

2. Jesus claimed to be the only way to God (John 14:6)

“‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” John 14:6

“You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse…You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.” C.S. Lewis

3. Jesus Was Raised

“And as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen.” Luke 24:5–6a

“If Jesus rose from the dead, you have to accept all that He said. If he didn’t rise from the dead, why worry about anything he said?” Tim Keller

4. Jesus Was Revolutionary

"I am a historian, I am not a believer. But I must confess, as a historian, that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history." H.G. Wells

“‘You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you.’” Matthew 16:16–17

What do you think about Jesus?

“’…everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:13
