Week 6: I Have a Mission
“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? Romans 10:14 (ESV)
GOD’S PLAN: The whole church taking the whole gospel to the whole world!
The life of a Jesus Follower is all about Relationships!
Foundational Reality: The Christian life is not me living for Jesus, the Christian life is Jesus living in and through me!
“The Christian life is nothing less than the life which He lived then…lived now by Him in you.” Major Ian Thomas
(1) Jesus was SENT. (2)Jesus was sent to BRING LIGHT.
“He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness.” John 12:45-46
“God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature and upholds all things by the word of His power.” Hebrews 1:1-3a
Talking to the Father: “As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.” John 17:18
Talking to His Disciples: “…as the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” John 20:21
“You are the LIGHT of the world.” Matthew 5:14
Paul tells us in 2 CORINTHIANS 2:14-17 (The BIG idea of these verses is the Life of Jesus being made known through my life.)
“But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and manifests through us the sweet aroma of the knowledge of Him in every place. For we are a fragrance of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing; to the one an aroma from death to death, to the other an aroma from life to life. And who is adequate for these things? For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.” 2 Corinthians 2:14 17 (NASB)
I. GOD DOES IT. II. GOD DOES IT AS THE OVERFLOW OF MY RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. III. GOD DOES IT THROUGH MY LIFE AND MY LIPS.
“Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16
I would share, BUT:
B - My Behavior doesn’t match God’s words.
U - I feel Unprepared
T - I am Too fearful of what others will think of me.
How can my behavior line up with God’s Word? Appropriate the life of Jesus already in you!
How can I be more prepared to share the Gospel? Grow in your daily walk with God.
How can I push past my fear?
What can I do to get started?
Ask God to give you opportunities to share the Gospel.
Be sensitive to the Spirit of God to see the opportunities.
Aim for your words to be true and sincere; not eloquent.
