The Life of a Jesus Follower
Week 2: My Relationship With God

“And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach.” Mark 3:13-14

“…hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf…” Hebrews 6:18-19

Foundational Truth:
The life of a Jesus follower is all about relationships!

1. ABIDE - a Relationship with God
2. CONNECT - a Relationship with One Another
3. SHARE - a Relationship with the World

“And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach.” Mark 3:13-14

1. Following Jesus Begins With an Invitation From Jesus

“The only thing you contributed to your salvation is the sin that made it necessary.” Jonathan Edwards

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” Ephesians 2:8

“Of course God does not consider you hopeless. If He did, He would not be moving you to seek Him (and He obviously is)... Continue seeking Him with seriousness. Unless He wanted you, you would not be wanting Him.” C.S. Lewis

“On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’” Matthew 7:22-23

2. Following Jesus Is All About Intimacy With Jesus

“And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him…” Mark 3:14a

“The primary call on my life is not to do something for Jesus. The primary call on my life is to be with Jesus.” Vance Pitman

“But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:41-42

“And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.” John 17:3

Two Goals of the Christian Life:
1. The Overall Goal — To Know God
2. The Daily Goal— To Spend Time with God

3. Following Jesus Overflows in Every Area of My Life
“And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and He might send them out to preach” Mark 3:14

Everything Jesus desires to do through you, He will accomplish out of the overflow of His relationship with you.

“I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5

FRUIT: The life of the vine being pressed out through the branches.

“We do not produce the fruit…It is the fruit of the Spirit within us; we simply bear it. Thus we become channels for God's grace.” Clyde Cranford

1. Following Jesus Begins With an Invitation From Jesus
2. Following Jesus Is All About Intimacy With Jesus
3. Following Jesus Overflows in Every Area of My Life

“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” John 15:11
