In his last sermon at Hope, Pastor Trenton preached from Acts 4:13-22.
When it comes to sharing the gospel, many of us feel like we don’t have what it takes, and our response to that is avoiding what we’re called to do. From the passage, we learn that the disciples felt the same way and what caused them to have the boldness to preach the gospel.
If you’re feeling like you don’t got what it takes to share the gospel with those around you, this message is for you!

With Him
Acts 4:13-22
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.” Acts 4:13, 21-22
I don’t have what it takes.
What do you actually need when what God’s asking is bigger than what you’ve got?
"Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus." Acts 4:13
1. We Don’t Need Credentials, We Need Christ
“‘…My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness…’” 2 Corinthians 12:9
2. We Don’t Need Information, We Need Intimacy
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13
WITHNESS
“‘I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.’” John 15:5
“And he said to him, ‘If your presence will not go with me, do not bring us up from here. For how shall it be known that I have found favor in your sight, I and your people? Is it not in your going with us, so that we are distinct, I and your people, from every other people on the face of the earth?’” Exodus 33:15-16
What will this produce?
1. Boldness
“Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.” Acts 4:13
What will this produce?
2. Witness
"But Peter and John answered them, 'Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.'" Acts 4:19-20
“A group of Christians not engaged in the mission is not a church; it’s just a group of disobedient Christians hanging out.” J.D. Greear
"But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition." Acts 4:14
What will this produce?
3. Worship
"And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened." Acts 4:21
“Mission exists because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, millions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever.” John Piper
WITHNESS -> BOLDNESS -> WITNESS -> WORSHIP
