The Gospel of Mark
Follow the Leader // Mark 10:31-34

“and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.” Mark 10:32-34

“…If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Mark 8:34b

True discipleship is always and ultimately about following Jesus.

Jesus’ Focus

“And they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was walking ahead of them.” Mark 10:32a

When it comes to humility and suffering, Jesus does not only teach, He leads the way.

“But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.” Isaiah 50:7

“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

Radical Obedience

“…He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” Philippians 2:8

As Christians, we have placed ourselves under the Lordship of Christ, HIS purpose must become our purpose.

Jesus’ Followers

“…and they were amazed, and those who followed were afraid.” Mark 10:32b

Christ’s determination to die for our sins and grant us salvation will always be a wonder to all His disciples.

Does the cross of Christ Jesus still amaze you?

The heart of the Gospel is we are sent to serve, even laying down our lives if God ordains it, just like he ordained his Son.

Messianic Prophesies
• My God why have You forsaken Me? (Psalm 22:1)
• They divided His garments… (Psalm 22:18
• Whom they have pierced… (Zechariah 12:10)
• With His wounds we are healed… (Isaiah 53:5)
• That he has done it. (Psalm 22:31)

Reckless Abandonment

“You will only see life and death correctly when you are content to follow Jesus.” H.B. Charles

“…If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” Mark 8:34b

Jesus’ Future

“…And taking the twelve again, he began to tell them what was to happen to him, saying, ‘See, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles. And they will mock him and spit on him, and flog him and kill him. And after three days he will rise.’” Mark 10:32c-34

“…nor death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, present, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything in creation.” Romans 8:38-39

“This Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.” Acts 2:23

The crucifixion of Jesus is validated by the resurrection of Jesus.

Recognizing the Resurrection.

True discipleship is always and ultimately about following Jesus.
